To begin your journey through the beautiful grounds of the Mission, you might want to reflect on a prayer, the Our Father, recited here in many languages over the past 440 years. The following are translations in English, Spanish, and Timucuan, the language of the indigenous people that Father Lopez and Pedro Menendez encountered:

Haka itimile - Timucuan

Haka itimile, numa hibantema, biamilenema abokwanoletahabema
Baluna nanemima nohobonihabe
Mine minintake numama isota monimakwi kakwa ultimate
Nakwimohabe ekwelareke hono henonika ekwelete nohobonihabe
Nina ehebotema natekwenike nimani sibonihabe hekate nakwimosima nina ehesibotema
natekwenike manista nikala kume hioninomate
Nini boha manta nihabi, batikwa ninihabe, aku nate istikolete inemikwa
nibalubo nihabe.

The Mission of Nombre de Dios is grateful to Michael Gannon, Ph.D., director of the Mission from 1962 through 1967, for the Timucuan translation.

Padre nuestro - Spanish

Padre nuestro que estas en los cielos, santificado sea tu nombre,
venga tu reyno,
hagase tu voluntad,
asì en la tierra como en el cielo.
Danos hoy nuestro pan cotidiano,
Y perdonanos nuestras deudas,
asi como nosotros perdonamos a nuestros deudores.
Y no nos metas en tentacion,
mas libranos de mal. Amen.

Our Father - English

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us
And lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil. Amen.
